In general, contemporary historical process, accelerated in recent decades, by which there is a growing global economic and cultural interrelation. The ease, immediacy, and low cost of communications have facilitated the flow of people and speculative financial capital. It has caused very positive effects and has opened a window of possibilities that some economic sectors have been able to take advantage of, while also causing very negative dysfunctions, such as a great increase in inequalities, although globally poverty has decreased due to the economic growth of emerging countries. Such adverse effects, along with the spread of neoliberal policies, have produced the reaction of contesting groups that self-qualify as anti-globalization movement.
